Term 1, 10th Blog

I did my presentation today, I accidentally had my previous ppt showing instead of my final ppt, and I only noticed until i got to the slide which I had changed to what Mr Ward said would be good. But it went fairly good otherwise. And, one of the other girls asked me later what they were called again because she was thinking about them.. so people listened and were interested so that is always a good thing.

I will  be doing the resort project with Ruby and we are thinking at the moment about doing a forest based one with cool gadgets, but the cost and practicality (which I am guessing we will have to include) won't be good, but we'll see.

Term 1, 9th Blog

Firstly an update that I forgot to mention before, I had to re-covert my presentation to the powerpoint I had it on to Microsoft Word PPT on my mums computer because I don't have word on my computer and instead I use a free software called "Open Office" however Word cannot read the docs, so I changed that before the first day of presentations.

The first day, Julia was up first and she started off with a video with her bashing iPad covers and it was good to watch. The juicy couture iPad ended up being the best because mainly of its ability to protect the iPad. That really opened my eyes to iPads covers and that actually the cover on our iPad at home is pretty good. Mr. Ward then said that a good way to do a design presentation is to have bullet points up and then get the audience to read them and just to verbally highlight the main points. So I adjusted a slide in my presentation to do so.

The rest were good, but it's hard to remember them, so mabye not too good. However all seamed well researched and presented.

Today (28th) there was a good one on drink bottles and the "awesome drink bottle" was not really that awesome. Kelsee did a good one on hair straighteners but seemed to lack info but was still really good. Ruby had a good one about the comparison of tablets. There were a few people who skipped out sections or did not make sections clear today. Lastly, Felicity did her's on paint and she contrasted them by painting pictures of dragons. But for the pantings, they were different sizes, designs, and colors so i do not believe it was a good comparison.

I will hopefully be doing mine on thursday

Term 1, Blog 8

I will be 15th to present my presentation next lesson (monday). I have finished and am happy with my simple ppt presentation (i only have a free software (an equivalent to word) but it doesn't have as many exciting effects). I am just noting down some key points that will help me with presenting because I am far from the best speaker in the world and a note that I may stutter.
But apart from that, I have checked the objective sheet and all seams to be in check, and I am pretty sure it will last in the time limit.

Term 1, Blog 7

I have changed to do a powerpoint presentation and I have transferred most of my info onto the ppt. It looks much more presentable and I am glad I changed. Mr Ward showed us an iPad cover and we analyzed it. I thought the concept of it was good but it did not protect the iPad from being dropped and I think there should of been a back to it and it would of been better if it could clip onto either the top or side so you can view it horizontally or vertically. But otherwise I agree and it is good. We have DF today and its our last class lesson. I need to take one more picture and analyze it.

Also Mr Ward talked about the robotic unit that they are doing for the year 7 (i think) and they used the same program as I did in Digital Tech last year in NZ. So that was cool to know.

Blog 6

Today, I worked on my compare and contrast of the soft vs RGP contact lenses. It went well enough. I am coming to a problem where the website is not good for presenting. I am quite considerating doing a PPT and using the website as another way of showing it, or not at all. It will be very easy to change and Im pretty sure I will change unless I quickly think of something. I will finish the text for now and then I will make up my mind
10 days till the presentation. I believe I am going good for time

My pages so far

Introduction to website

Welcome to my website which is alerting consumer awareness on RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable), also know as corrective contact lenses. As a school based project, our brief is to create consumer awareness for a certain artifact (in my case, RGPs) to help the consumer make a well-rounded decision before buying the product.

I will be analyzing the contact by the Aspects of Design; function, aesthetics, economics and ergonomics. Each of these aspects will help shape your view and decision on purchasing the lens. I will also compare the RGP lenses to the more commonly know, soft lens. The right most link on the option bar at the top will show feedback and comments made from professional practitioners and actual wearers of the lens.

Notes on copyright; the website logo is not an official logo of the contact lens.

Aesthetics:

Definition of Aesthetics
A set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty, esp. in art”

The Aesthetics of RGP corrective lenses are not as relevant to analyzing the lens compared to the other aspects of its design. Never-the-less, the aesthetics are still part of my analysis.
RGP lenses are semi-oval shaped, curved exactly to fit or shape your eye. They are transparent in colour allowing you to still be able to see out of them whilst they are on the eyeball.

Economics
Definition of Economics
The branch of knowledge concerned with the production, consumption and transfer of wealthFrom the New Oxford American Dictionary

RGP corrective lenses are more expensive that soft contact lenses at $240.00 per lens. However the RGP corrective lenses last for up to 3 years each making the daily cost approximately 22c a day. The lenses last this long due to the allowance of air to pass through the lens and to the eyeball unlike soft contact lenses.
Consequently, in the long term, monthly disposable soft contact lenses can cost from one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half times the cost of RGP lenses and daily disposable contact lenses can cost up to six or seven times as much as one pair of RGP lenses.

Function
Definition of Function
an activity or purpose natural to or intended for a person or thing: Bridges perform the function of providing access across water”From the New Oxford American Dictionary

RGP corrective contact lenses are designed to shape the wearers eye whilst they sleep, enabling them to see clearly throughout the day without the aid of contact lenses or glasses. The RGP corrective lenses are able to cure short and long sightedness. Also, if required they can also help improve colour deficiencies.

Ergonomics:
Definition of Ergonomics
How an object or artifact interacts with the human body”

Wearers of RGP corrective will, unlike most other lenses, put the contact in at night. This is so that while they are sleeping the lens will reshape the eyeball to 20/20 vision. When the wearer wakes up, using a miniature plunger, the contacts are removed from the eyes and the wearer will be about to see clearly throughout they day without the aid of contact lenses or glasses.

RGP corrective contact lenses, unlike soft contact lenses, talk a period for the eye to adjust to the lens, where as with soft lenses, there is immediate comfort. However, once the eye has adjusted to the lens, they are highly comfortable because they allow air to pass through the lens are reach the cornea.

Like using any type of lens, it will take a while for the wearer to get used to putting the lens on the eye. However, once used to the aspect of putting a lens into your eye, the GP corrective lens is easy to place in the eye and it is highly unlikely to 'pop' out.

Taking the lens out is especially easy with the help from a miniature plunger stick. To talk the lens out, you simply press the end of the plunger onto the lens and it will pull the lens out. Avoiding the possibility to accidentally touch the eye when trying to take the lens out with your fingers.

You store the lens in a specialized container where the lenses 'slip' into their holder and are suspended in specialized water. This makes them easy to get out and put in.

term 1, 5th blog

Today again Mr Ward was away so I just got straight into it. I tried to make each page look individual (on the web) however I kept clicking "save to all" instead of "save to this page only". So today was quite frustrating. However I eventually got there and I am starting to upload the info. I will ask Mr Ward when he is in class next if he has any ways that he wants to present my web page because he has only explained for a ppt.
Weither he decides to tell me or I have to make it up by myself, i'll soon see.

Term 1, 4th Blog

I have done pretty much all my research and now I am putting the information together in a word doc so I can copy and paste it straight into Weebly (sometimes it takes a bit longer if I am writing straight into it). I have drawn up a plan (attached) so I know what I will be doing on each page. I have come across an issue of presenting, since it is a public website, i need to be detaied enough so people can understand on the own accord, however, when I present it, I don't want the class to know about what I am taking about because then it was be a presentation. I have a few ideas, either a) leave it how it is a don't follow the words but explain diagrams or b) have another link for each tab and just click on that. But I will tackle problems as they come, no point on worrying about something that hasn't happened yet.
Till next time...
Yes, it's messy but I understand it.

Term 1, 3rd Blog

At the start of this lesson, Mr Ward showed us how we should plan our multimedia presentation so when it comes to putting it together, we will know exactly what we are doing where.
I then went back to researching my topic (hard contacts lenses) and found out it had 3 names, corrective contact lenses, hard contact lenses and gp contact lenses. So this helped me find more about the lenses. I also found some interviews with users and Practitioners about the lenses. So once again, very helpful.
This week, the internet is going out at home so I am doing my blog in class.
Summary, very productive lesson in the research of the artifact.
Another update picture showing the shape of the lenses.
NOTE TO SELF: SAVED IN DF FOLDER!

Homework

Personal Definition of Design Fault: An artifact or system which does not carry out its function or does not work ergonomically after a short period of time.
Design Fault at my home: Simply, our dishwasher does not wash dishes, it solidifies the dirt/mess that is already on it.
They look cleanish because we wash the dishes and then
put them on the dishwasher because my brother and I are
too lazy to dry them.
