Term 1, 2nd Blog

Today in Design, Mr Ward gave us another example on analyzing a product with the example of a desk chair. This showed us that, depending on the product, some aspects of design outweigh another. Using the chair as an example, ergonomics of the chair was more important than the aestics of the chair for the chairs function is to sit on (the mobility of the chair is just another feature to make their product more appealing.
We then began to research our topics (At the time I was doing a portable hard drive (which is apparentally a 'kiwi' term)) but while researching I released it would more efficient to research the corrective lens (which I and I know others have used) so I changed topics.
I will analyze the corrective lens and then also compare it to a soft lens.

- this is briefly what the corrective lens fixes, the lens pushes the cornea of the eye back into place while you are asleep, so when the wearer takes it out in the morning, they can see clearly without any aid.

Aspects Of Design (Note to self)

Function:
Does it do what it's supposed to do?
Does it perform it effectively?
Improvements?

Aesthetics:
Design (personal tastes/fashions of the times)
Relates to color, shape, proportion, texture and other visual aspects of the artifact

Ergonomics:
Interaction with the human body
Shape, ease-of-use, comfort, safety, convince, taste, smell

Economics:
Cost to produce (materials, manufacture, labour, ads, transport, packaging, sales, administration) - selling cost

Term 1, First Blog 30/01

This is my first blog in Design Futures, 2012. I have never done Design (of any sort) before at my previous school, so I am new to most things. However, the explanations and power points are clear and easy to understand, so I am catching up.
For the first 5 (approx. (27th Feb due)) weeks of this term we will be analyzing a product of our choice. We will analyze it based on Aesthetics, Ergonomics, Economics, Function and Comparison. It will need to be presented in a multi-media presentation - I am thinking of doing a website (using weekly (a free website creator site)).
I am still not sure on what I should do it on, I am thinking on hard rives (I have a pathetic one that crashes all the time) so that may be interesting to do.
